Find out what lakes are close to you and do your research. There is no point fishing a lake that isn't having a good season or just too hard to fish. If you take on anything too big to quick it will spoil your experience. Stand next to the lake before you commit to setting up and have a good look at the water. If you don’t see a fish break the water within 5 minutes that lake would not be a good place to start. Young carp with break the water surface regularly so find a lake that you can see them and know they are in there.
